Last year, it was a bit uncomfortable for those who ran the Tokyo marathon. It was chilly and wet, not the best conditions for running a super over crowded event that for a lot of people, would define their respective training efforts for the whole year preceding that event. However, as chilly and wet as it was, it was NOTHING compared to what I hope the people this year will get stuck dealing with.
This year, the weather has been frankly, Shit. Cold, rainy and snowing. In my 6 years in Japan I have never seen it this bad. Today, again, White-friggin-Christmas out here. my 4AM fun time has been just lovely lately, let me tell you. All I can do is bend all my negative energy about this towards WILLING it to be miserable for all the weekend warriors “running”, this is in quotes because most of these people will actually be walking most of the race, the marathon.
Why do I dislike the Tokyo Marathon?
- Like all Japanese events, registering is a nightmare and horribly over-complex.
- It is DAMN over crowded.
- The race itself has such a pretentious aura about it, that loathing it and everyone involved is so easy.
- I hate everyone that is suddenly jogging around Tokyo this month in their brand new shiny running kit and will immediately stop running for 11 months after February 28th.
- I am not in it. We call this “Sour fucking grapes”.
I know, this is rather petty, but have I EVER claimed to be anything but…?
Officially here it is, Tokyo Marathon (and all your people involved in it) I curse you. Cold weather, horrible winds, snow and just overall general Misery will be the bane of your sad existence on the 28th….
